The Horticultural Society of St. Louis connects neighbor nonprofits — garden clubs, schools, businesses, churches, neighborhood and civic organizations to our formally trained, dedicated volunteer gardeners to build community through hands-on gardening.

Volunteer Today!

Who we are

Welcome to our vibrant community of nature enthusiasts, where passion for the great outdoors meets dedication to preserving our shared green spaces. We invite you to explore the serene beauty of regional parks, community gardens and volunteer sites, while joining us in our mission to nurture and enjoy the natural world.

We do this by partnering with local charitable groups throughout the St. Louis area, providing hands-on volunteer gardening work and several chances for education opportunities.

We feature a speaker’s bureau to educate and engage people — of all ages and groups of all sizes — to the wonder of nature, by giving fun and educational speaker series talks.

We also run a formal, once-a-year class to ensure our volunteers are the best prepared in the St. louis area to supply hands-on gardening help and expert horticultural advice, on any topic.

By uniting formally trained volunteers with nonprofits and community gardens, we believe through gardening we strengthen neighborhoods roots through volunteerism & education.

Did you know?

The Horticultural Society has a Plant MD HOTLINE!

Have a Plant Question?

Ask Us Anytime!

The Plant MD Hotline gives you the opportunity to get answers to you various gardening, insect, tree, flower, herb, wildlife, landscaping and fruit questions.

The Volunteers address the everyday (and not so everyday!) questions encountered by gardeners.

The hotline is staffed by trained volunteer Master Gardeners with the Horticultural Society of St. Louis who have completed rigorous program requirements.

Give us all the detail you can, and please include pictures of the following;

  • Distance shot showing the environment

  • Closer shot of just the plant itself

  • Up close shot showing the area of concern.

Email us at STLplantMD@gmail.com at anytime with your questions.
